Hi, everyone! My name is Victoria, I’m a rising sophomore at Amherst College, and I am a summer 2020 intern for Inner Rock! As a girl who’s passionate about female empowerment and human rights, I knew from the get-go that Inner Rock would be a company where I could contribute my skills and ideas to my fullest extent. I have loved the experience of growing and learning here!
Today, I want to share with you all the BEST parts of working with this group! Let’s dive right into it!
What is something super unique about working at Inner Rock that I can’t find anywhere else?
I get to work alongside the incredible founder, owner and trail-blazer of Inner Rock: Joni Swedlund! It’s usually super hard to be in an internship position that gets you working in close proximity to the founders and big leaders of the company. Here at Inner Rock, we are a group of close-knit women that aim to raise each other up and want to help each other grow!
Give me a quick snap-shot of what a day-in-the-life an intern looks like.
You got it! Currently, I work remotely from home. It looks a little something like this:
I start my morning by making sure everything looks good on the website and social media (always want to make sure that our customers are getting the BEST experience when they interact with us!). Then, I finish the rest of my morning tackling some assignments, from emailing, editing, social media, graphic design, writing, and much more.
After taking a little break to workout, eat some lunch, and maybe watch some YouTube (just for a few minutes, I promise! I try to avoid binge-watching throughout the day! :) ), I then continue my assignments. I have at least one daily check-in with Joni, which often happens in the afternoon.
During our meetings, we debrief, talk about Inner Rock’s future events and goals, what’s coming next, and how I can put my best foot forward in my work. They’re always encouraging and fun meetings!
I wrap up the day in the afternoon! I might schedule some social media posts to come out the next day so that I don’t have to worry about posting all of them up in the morning.
Be honest with me… Have you had any moments where you goofed up?
Yes, of course! A recent one: I sometimes alter (or even accidentally completely change) something on our website that I didn’t mean to. Yikes!! Every now and then, some part of the website might surprise me and not listen to what I am trying to edit, rearrange, or add. I have had to spend quite some time on the phone with Wix.com Customer Care to help us understand what’s going on. Not gonna lie, I get super frustrated, but Joni has given me some great advice, which is: Don’t rush what you do. Take your time and complete it well.
