The leadership gap

Are your women and minorities at risk of being left behind in leadership?  You know that organizations with diverse leadership excel.  Making it happen is another challenge altogether.  Is your organization experiencing the leadership gap?

  • Women and minorities are not progressing as fast as their male counterparts.

  • Only a few women and minorities are rising to the Executive level.

  • The percentage of women and minorities in the pipeline for promotion has plateaued.

Women and minorities do not need fixing.  They need opportunities to grow and practice their leadership.  They need to know that they are not on their leadership journey alone.  Leadership is intentional.  It is a choice.  It is a practice.  Everyone has the potential to lead.

The confidence gap

Women underestimate their abilities and their performance.  However, the biggest barrier can be in a woman’s head.  Allowing doubt or fear to veer her off the course of her boldest ambitions.  It is important to get behind her.  Encourage her dreams.  Acknowledge her strengths.  Applaud her risk-taking.  Knowing someone has her back may change her trajectory and the ultimate outcome.  Closing the confidence gap is simply good business.

INVESTING IN FUTURE LEADERS

The confidence gap starts younger than you can imagine.  Girls lose their confidence significantly more compared to boys as early as elementary school and tend to plateau through college.  It is never too early to invest in leadership for girls.  Encouraging girls to take risks.  Giving them opportunities to use their voice.  Teaching them how to rebound from failure.  Helping them to navigate the complexities of relationships.  Providing methods to silence their inner critic.  Preparing girls to be leaders just makes sense.  Strong Girls. Strong Women. Stronger World.
